Eine wechselvolle Geschichte begleitet das Haus von der Gr\u00fcndung bis heute.<\/p>\n<p>Erste Planungen f\u00fcr ein Krankenhaus in S\u00fcdlohn gab es bereits 1872, S\u00fcdlohn hatte zu dieser Zeit ca. 2.400 Einwohner. 1873 stiftete der B\u00fcrger Heinrich Schreven 2.000 Taler und ein Grundst\u00fcck mit der Zweckbindung f\u00fcr die Errichtung eines Krankenhauses. Weitere 2.000 Taler wurden durch Heinrich Herking gestiftet. Die Krankenhausstiftung wurde an die katholische Kirchengemeinde St. Vitus \u00fcbertragen. Im Jahre 1896 war das Stiftungsverm\u00f6gen soweit gewachsen, dass mit den Bauarbeiten begonnen werden konnte. Ein Jahr sp\u00e4ter &#8211; im Jahre 1897 &#8211; konnte das Krankenhaus mit 25 Betten eingeweiht werden. Als Erinnerung an die beiden Hauptstifter Heinrich Schreven und Heinrich Herking erhielt das Krankenhaus den Namen &#8222;Henricus-Hospital&#8220;. Mit der Aufnahme des Krankenhausbetriebes kamen auch die ersten drei Ordensschwestern nach S\u00fcdlohn, die hier Krankenhausdienste leisteten.<\/p>\n<p>In den n\u00e4chsten Jahren &#8211; insbesondere im 1. Weltkrieg &#8211; zeigte sich die Notwendigkeit der Erweiterung. Im Jahre 1931 kam es zum ersten Erweiterungsbau. Die Zahl der Krankenzimmer wurde auf 40 erh\u00f6ht, eine Isolierabteilung und ein Operationsraum wurde eingerichtet. Die erste R\u00f6ntgenanlage wurde 1938 in Betrieb genommen. Der Personalbestand 1944 betrug 3 \u00c4rzte, 6 Ordensschwestern, 5 Gehilfinnen f\u00fcr Pflege und K\u00fcche und Angestellte im eigenen landwirtschaftlichen Betrieb.<\/p>\n<p>Am 22. M\u00e4rz 1945 wurde das Krankenhaus von mehreren Luftbomben getroffen, gro\u00dfe Teile wurden zerst\u00f6rt. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde das Haus an gleicher Stelle und in gleicher Form unter aktiver Mithilfe der Bev\u00f6lkerung wieder aufgebaut. 1954 wurde der zweite Erweiterungsbau errichtet. Der Bettentrakt an der Bahnhofstra\u00dfe wurde 1969 eingeweiht. Im Jahre 1975 k\u00fcndigte das Land Nordrhein-Westfalen die Schlie\u00dfung des Belegkrankenhauses an. Das Krankenhaus &#8222;Henricus-Hospital&#8220; zu S\u00fcdlohn wurde nicht mehr in den Krankenhaus-Bedarfsplan des Landes NRW aufgenommen. Somit musste 1981 das Belegkrankenhaus in ein Altenkrankenheim umgewandelt werden.<\/p>\n<p>Schon 1975 wurden beim Henricus-Stift 31 Altenwohnungen als Mietwohnungen gebaut. Das Kuratorium der Stiftung Henricus-Hospital beschloss 1988, das Altenkrankenheim in ein modernes Altenwohn- und Pflegeheim umzubauen. Im Jahre 1991 wurde im angrenzenden ehemaligen Gemeindepark mit den Bauarbeiten f\u00fcr das neue Altenwohn- und Pflegeheim begonnen. Am 06. Viele Aktionen werden gemeinsam geplant. Ca. 100 Frauen sind im Besuchsdienst aktiv, ca. 30 Jugendliche helfen regelm\u00e4\u00dfig beim Sonntagsdienst. Die Mitgliedschaft in der Nachbarschaft <strong><em>&#8222;<\/em><\/strong>Porthook&#8220; zeugt vom Miteinander in der Gemeinde. Insbesondere der Kontakt zur Pfarrgemeinde St. Vitus und St. Jakobus ist intensiv, die Gottesdienste in der Pfarrkirche St. Vitus werden per Video direkt in das Henricus-Stift \u00fcbertragen. Das Henricus-Stift ist keine &#8222;Insel im Park&#8220;, sondern ein Haus der Begegnung und der offenen T\u00fcr. Das Henricus-Stift ist auch ein Wirtschaftsfaktor in der Gemeinde: Rund 200 Mitarbeiter sind fest angestellt und k\u00fcmmern sich um das Wohl der Bewohner. Die ganze Anlage umfasst heute<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>das Altenwohn- und Pflegeheim Henricus-Stift mit 102 Pl\u00e4tzen, davon 10 Kurzzeitpflegepl\u00e4tze<\/li>\n<li>31 Altenwohnungen<\/li>\n<li>das &#8222;Betreute Wohnen&#8220; St. Marienstift mit 13 Wohnungen<\/li>\n<li>das &#8222;Betreute Wohnen&#8220; St. Franziskushaus mit 26 Wohnungen<\/li>\n<li>das &#8222;<strong><em>Caf\u00e9
