Jahrhunderts f\u00fchlten sich zahlreiche S\u00fcdlohner M\u00e4nner und Frauen berufen, ihr Leben in den Dienst der kirchlichen Gemeinschaft zu stellen. Im Licht der \u00d6ffentlichkeit stand dabei vor allem Alfons Demming, geb. 29. Februar 1928in S\u00fcdlohn.<br \/>\nAm 21.12.1953 empfing der die Priesterweihe. 1959 war er Kaplan in Coesfeld St. Jakobi und in Selm St. Joseph. 1959 wurde er zum Pr\u00e4ses des Piuskollegs in Coesfeld berufen. 1968 wurde er Pfarrer in Altenberge. 1970 wurde ihm das Amt des Dechanten \u00fcbertragen. Am 19.11.1976 ernannte Papst Paul VI. ihn zum Weihbischof. Die Bischofsweihe empfing er am 09.01.1977. 1998 wurde er als 73 \u2013 j\u00e4hriger von seinen Dienstpflichten befreit.<br \/>\n\u201eEr sprach die Sprache des Westm\u00fcnsterlandes, die Sprache der Menschen\u201c \u2013 so w\u00fcrdigte Alt-Bischof Lettmann das Wirken des beliebten Seelsorgers. Weibischof Alfons Demming starb am 31. Oktober 2012 nach langer Krankheit. Er wurde am 8.
